Currently, carbon fiber prepreg is mostly produced using thermosetting resins (such as epoxy resin). The main production processes are solution and hot melt.
Solution method: The resin is dissolved in a low-boiling-point solvent to form a solution with a specific concentration. The fiber bundle or fabric is then impregnated with the resin solution at a specified rate. The resin content is controlled using auxiliary tools. The low-boiling-point solvent is then evaporated by drying and the product is finally wound.
Hot melt method: A resin film that meets the requirements is pressed and impregnated with the corresponding fiber or fabric through hot melt impregnation under a certain pressure and temperature. The resulting material is called hot melt prepreg. Its advantage is that the resin content can be controlled, allowing the production of prepregs of a specified weight. This method is generally used in actual production.
